THE VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY 

Foodwise operates world-class farmers markets and education programs to connect the community with fresh, local food and sustainable family farms

  • Farmers Market volunteer opportunities include:
    • Information Booth volunteer – helping provide Market services such as answering general questions, promoting programs, distributing parking validation, assisting with setup and breakdown
    • Veggie Valet volunteer – helping shoppers temporarily store their purchase and helping with curbside pickup
  • Foodwise Kids volunteer opportunities include:
    • Facilitate hands-on learning for elementary school students during 2-hour culinary farmers market field trip – assist during cooking classes, help setup and breakdown classrooms, manage small group discussions about seasonal produce and local farms, host small group tastings, help children shop in the market
REQUIREMENTS
Time commitment 3-4 hours
Day(s) of week Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays
Time of day
  • 9am-1pm Tuesdays + Thursdays
  • 8am-11am or 11am-2pm Saturdays
Location Ferry Plaza Farmers Market, San Francisco
Languages Monolingual English, Bilingual English/Spanish, Bilingual English/Chinese
Physical requirements Bending, standing, lifting up to 50lbs
Training Attend a general orientation, or watch a video of the orientation

Additional job specific training and safety orientation will be provided by a supervisor once you’ve signed up for a volunteer shift

HOW TO REGISTER + WHAT TO EXPECT
To register
  • Complete volunteer application online
  • The application takes 10-15 minutes; you will be asked to review the handbook, sign a nondisclosure agreement and a waiver of liability
  • The application is available in English and Spanish but the handbook and other forms are only in English
What to expect during your shift Your shift supervisor will provide you with specific tasks during your shift
What to wear/bring Sturdy shoes, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and water bottle
